Science (Primary) Art (Elementary) & Music (Toddler and Primary)

We are excited to announce that we are offering fun and engaging online programs in Science, Art and Music with Karin, Tania and Anna for various grade levels. All programs will be delivered through Zoom.

ART

Drawing and Painting Instruction

Teacher/Grades:

Tania Henderson – Jarrow Art Teacher: 1st – 3rd Grades (incoming 1st graders eligible)

Dates/Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm.

2 days/wk for 8 weeks: June 8 – July 31

Cost: $200

Description: Drawing and Painting Instruction:  Animals, Nature, Shapes and Design, with suggestions from the “Zoomies” (students) encouraged.   This Zoom class is designed to help your young artist practice and develop drawing and painting skills while nurturing their own individual interests.  Depending on the input of the students, we may decide to build one or more of the subjects into 3-D form, using recycled materials. My hope here is to use the 30 minute classes twice a week to inspire your children so they are engaged in their work and can keep working independently for 30-120 minutes. I will be ending the Tuesday class with the encouragement to “fun-finish” on their own, so on Thursday we can take a look and see what else might be fun to do or add before starting the next lesson.  In the art room, when the kids get absorbed by their art practice there is a quiet hum that I miss so much and hope to bring into your home!

Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture and Space

Teacher/Grades:

Tania Henderson – Jarrow Art Teacher: 4th – 6th Grades (incoming 4th graders eligible)

Dates/Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30 pm – 3:00 pm.

2 days/wk for 8 weeks: June 8 – July 31

Cost: $200

Description:  Elements of Art: Line, Shape, Form, Color, Value, Texture and Space.

This class will strengthen your young artist’s understanding of the Elements in Art, while allowing the student to lead with their own solutions regarding how to create interesting work. Students can use any medium available to them at home to support their interests, ideas and creativity.  We will be discussing some famous artists and how they use different elements to make their work provocative. My intention here is to light or stoke an existing fire in your young artist to help them create their very own, one of a kind piece, whether it be a paper mache sculpture or a portrait of their cat, abstraction or realism.  My intention is that Tuesday we begin something that inspires the students so they are motivated to finish independently for our Thursday meetings. Then we can look and see what else might be interesting to add, change or enhance while leaning on the elements to direct these suggestions and accolades.

Science

Got Science?

Teacher/Grades:

Karin Cassidy – Primary Lead Teacher: Primary (Ages 3-6)

Dates/Time: Mondays and Tuesdays, 10:00 am – 10:30 am.

2 days/wk for 8 weeks: June 8 – July 31

Cost: $200

Description:  Science is a fantastic way to answer the why, what, when and how in the world around us. This class will introduce science to children in a creative, fun and experiential way. In the Montessori classroom, your child is exposed to botany, zoology, astronomy and physics. Got Science will allow your scientist to go further!

We will start the first part of our class by learning about simple chemistry (what is it: liquid, solid, gas) and what happens when molecules react to one another? This will open up many areas for safe experiments your child can learn and then practice at home. We will also be doing some fun activities and experiments that will bring your child outdoors.
We will finish out the last 2 weeks by doing some exciting STEM activities that we can create out of simple recyclables. Summer is the perfect time for scientists to move their lab outside, so join us for 8 weeks, on Mondays and Tuesdays for some hands-on fun.
