Dear Jarrow Parents,
Through her work and research as scientist and anthropologist, Dr. Montessori offered us a new vision for the importance of childhood – and its profound mark on the formation of the adult each child will eventually become. A deeper appreciation for Dr. Montessori’s vision can lead to a concept of education from the heart. Imagine the Latin word, educere, which means to lead from within. This is very different from pouring fixed amounts of information or guidance into a child. Instead, it calls us to assist children’s natural cycles of development so they may unfold in the best possible ways. In this complex and profound task, we as parents and educators must continue to seek contexts and relationships that support our highest goals.
In the spirit of such partnership, we invite all Jarrow parents and friends to the first in a series of conversations which will offer tools and insights on parenthood, its challenges, and rewards. On Thursday night, January 25th Jarrow dad and internationally acclaimed author, filmmaker and speaker Philip McKernan will be speaking at the Canyon Theater (Boulder Public Library). “Ninety percent of people die with regret,” says Philip McKernan, “I work with the other ten percent”.
Come join us to explore what this could mean for our lives as human beings raising children, and as human beings working to make more satisfying choices, and learning to lead and love from within. We hope to see you there. Bring your friends!
