At Jarrow Montessori we believe that when the parents and the school work together the benefits to the children are greatly enhanced. It is a partnership, and Jarrow offers many opportunities for you to become more informed about Montessori philosophy and education, and observe and participate in your child’s school experience.
Throughout the year we offer Parent Education Nights, designed to inform on Montessori philosophy, elements of Montessori curriculum and perspectives on parenting. If you have ideas on educational programing that would interest the community we invite you to share those ideas with us at communications@jarrow.org.
We also recommend that all our parents make the time to observe in the classroom. This is a unique opportunity to get a glimpse of your child at work. You can schedule an observation through the office.
There are many other school events as well, from social events for the whole family, to classroom parties to celebrate a holiday, to Move-up nights, to presentations of work. These are all chances for you as a family in become more involved, educated and invested in your child’s educational experience at Jarrow Montessori School.
Jarrow offers many opportunities for you to play an active role in your child’s education, and your volunteerism is a vital element of our school. We ask that all families lend a hand to our community throughout the year. Your time and talents are unique, invaluable and essential to the school’s progress.
Volunteer Opportunities
The Jarrow Parent Association, which is a volunteer organization comprised of parents who work together with the faculty and staff to enrich the community through fundraising, social events, and parent education. The JPA is great way to get involved, learn more about school events and keep the lines of communication open.
Room Parents
The goal of room parents is to help support the teachers and students in their respective classrooms by serving as liaisons between the teacher and the parents. They help to facilitate communication with parents and organize volunteers for classroom social and educational events, field trips, and activities in the classroom where the teacher may need some additional help.
As a result of their ongoing participation and communication, room parents help strengthen a sense of community in the class, which benefits the children and school as a whole. Talk to your teacher about volunteering to be a room parent.
School Events
Jarrow has many events throughout the year, both school-wide and age specific. Many of these events are sponsored by the JPA, but volunteers are needed for all! Email the JPA about becoming involved at jpa@jarrow.org.
