We offer admiration for Upper El students who recently undertook the great task of creating a business plan, finding an underwriter and offering hospitality with coffee and pastries at Morning Gate. We also offer gratitude to all Jarrow parents who participated as patrons and supporters. What a beautiful and motivating convergence of intention as we move into the Year of Collaboration at Jarrow.
When Dr. Montessori began her work in the slums of San Lorenzo over one hundred years ago, this scientist, this physician, this anthropologist, lover of human potential and hope, named the virtues of Practical Life as one of the great keys to well being, to confidence and to contribution.
Learning how to live in this world with grace and generosity, with a sense of the needs of others, and the confidence to take a stand is at the heartbeat of Montessori philosophy. When organizing a morning coffee and baked goods event, our Upper Elementary students were practicing some of life’s most basic and complicated life skills within a safe and loving place.
This is one example among many you will continue to witness and share as we support and urge our children. Likewise, may we support and urge one another to grow in our ability to stretch beyond our expectations, refine our gifts and continue to learn and grow.
With gratitude for each of you,
Mary Zeman, Interim Head of School
Mercedes Dugan, Assistant Head of School
on behalf of Our Administration and Staff
P.S. The First Coffee Morning at Gate raised $500! A tremendous start to the Upper El Fundraising and Outreach goals this year.
